How to add Trackpad Control Element

Trackpad resembles most laptops' standard trackpads which basically provides functionality similar to a computer mouse. The larger upper area of the trackpad is used for moving the computer's cursor around the screen. The lower left part of the trackpad simulates a computer's mouse left click – indicated with the letter L, and the lower right part of the trackpad simulates a computer's mouse right click – indicated with the letter R.

  1. Tap the Trackpad Control Element button
    Control Element of type: Trackpad
  2. Tap the Add Control Elementbutton
    Add Control Element
  3. The Trackpad Control Element consists of the Trackpad Area, Left Mouse Click Area, and Right Mouse Click Area.
    The Trackpad Control Element
The Trackpad Area acts like a Grouping Container when moving the Trackpad Control Element over the Gamepad Area meaning that if you move the Trackpad Area the left and right Mouse Click Areas move along with it. The Mouse Click Areas can be moved independently.
  4. You can tap-and-drag either the Trackpad Area or the Mouse Click Areas to position them anywhere within the Gamepad Area
  5. You can modify the properties of either the Trackpad Area or the Mouse Click Areas by tapping the Properties button when Control Element you want to modify is selected
    Control Element Properties
  6. You can remove either the Trackpad Area or the Mouse Click Areas by tapping the Remove button when Control Element you want to remove is selected
    Remove Control Element
  7. Click anywhere outside the Control Element to set its new keystroke and properties
  8. NOTE: When a game session is on, and you tap-and-hold anywhere within the Trackpad Area, the entire Gamepad Area becomes the Trackpad Area meaning that even if you move your finger outside the Trackpad Area while it is still pressed, the application will continue to function as though the finger never reached the outside boundaries of the Trackpad Area.

Modify Control Element Properties

There are 3 types of configurable properties available per control element:

  • Size – The physical size of the Control Element or of one of its components
  • Repeatability – Specifies whether the key is repeated when remained pressed
  • Repeat Frequency – The repeat frequency of the key in case "Repeat Key" was selected
  1. Tap the Properties button
    Control Element Properties
  2. The Properties window will open which looks like this
    Control Element Properties Window
  3. Select any Control Element found on the Gamepad Area by tapping on it once until it is highlighted
  4. Modify the properties using the Properties window
    • Native key - indicates the keyboard key
    • Key label - a label that can be used instead of the original key
    • Size - the size of the key
    • Repeat Key - toggles key repetition on/off
    • Repeat Frequency - sets the key repetition frequency in times per second
  5. You can repeat steps 3-4 for additional Control Elements without the need to close and reopen the Properties window
  6. When you're done, close the Properties window by clicking the X button on the upper right corner of the window

I downloaded the free version of BBG Gamepad to see if I could use for my flight sim game. To be of use I would need to program buttons with keyboard macros consisting of several key commands sent together as a single command. Is this possible in this app?

  • Hi Tony,
As of version 1.3 BB Gamepad supports macros. Each single macro can simulate unlimited number of keystrokes.
You can try the macro functionality in the BB Gamepad free version which supports a single macro. The full version supports 256 different macros.
Learn more on how to create macros at http://www.briskbit.com/help/gamepad/create-macro.
